Holiday Manicure with China Glaze and Milani

Look at how festive in the snow!

I have been feeling really Holidayish lately. I have decorated the whole house inside and out for Christmas. And it snowed here all day yesterday and I liked it. Which is slightly insane because I pretty much hate snow and winter normally. But I guess I’m sort of turning over a new leaf. We’ll see.

Tease-y Does It was looking awful by yesterday, so I had to change my polish. I have been feeling very festive and have been meaning to wear China Glaze Jolly Holly because it looks awesome. But I guess I didn’t want to wear it and then get sick of it and not want to wear it closer to the holidays. I put on Jolly Holly and loved it, but apparently since I have been feeling so good and festive I needed something else. My sister recently picked me up some of these new Milanis while at CVS. I have never used Milani but slapped on Gems as accent nails on my ring finger and thumb and it’s awesome.

Cloudy Skies

Isn’t this fun? It’s actually a little flashy for me to be honest. With this hexagon and multicolored chunky glitter in Gems. And a little early because it is very Christmasy to me. When I first put this on I thought, “This might be a little much, Liz.” But I have completely been loving it. Gems has red, gold, light blue, silver, and green glitter. It’s a clear base and there’s also small glitter pieces in this polish. I used two coats on each other accent nail. I kind of wish I did a more gradual effect with less on the bottom of the nail and more at the top. But next time I’ll keep that in mind.

Cloudy

Jolly Holly’s application was pretty good. I have been pretty bad at a neat polish application lately and I’m not sure why. Before clean up, my nails are looking rough! JH’s formula was great. It was slightly on the thinner side, but applied so pigmented and saturated. This polish could probably be a one coater. It’s so deep and shimmery. The finish is metallic but very shiny and glossy. It has gold microshimmer in it that you can see more in the bottle than on the nail. But it’s a very pretty color.

The greens in this CG Holiday collection were amazing. I still want Snowy so bad! I need to get my paws on it.

Ready for the Blackhawks game to start,

Liz

EDIT 12/7/10: That Milani Gems was AWFUL to remove. It stuck to the felt I use to remove horribly and I literally had to scrub it off. However, I was not using pure acetone, just regular remover.

Milani: Melt Down

Melt Down from Milani's Liquid Metals Collection

Hey all! Sorry I’ve been quiet all week, I had such a difficult week with nail polish and it all started with this: Milani’s Melt Down. Melt Down is a dark cherry red from Milani’s Liquid Metals collection that came out this summer. It’s a good, solid red with a lot of shimmer. It’s a nice classic color and the glitter gives it a little extra kick, but it’s not exactly unique. When I put it on, I was a fan of the color because we know that I am a lover of reds.

However, it was pretty much downhill from there. I did my nails late in the evening, around 9pm and let them dry for an hour or two before going to bed. I woke up the next morning with chips and tip wear. …What?! Did I sleep walk during the night and bang my nails against the wall? I don’t think so. I was very shocked, shocked that this happened in less than 12 hours and also shocked because I did not have this experience when wearing the other colors from that same collection. I used Seche as a top coat and didn’t experience any weirdness before so I’m at a loss as to why this happened. Anyway, I had to take it off that night it looked so bad, (with the glitter, this is also not a treat to remove, that goes for the whole collection). I also wore Borghese Red after that and didn’t even get the chance to take a picture of that one as the same thing happened. I guess my nails just weren’t feeling my polish this week.

To sum it up, great classic, shimmery red, but I did not have a great experience with the wear. Milanis are super affordable and I haven’t had problems with their polish in the past so I do recommend trying them out as a general rule.

Coming up this week I am going to have the China Glaze Halloween 2010 nail polishes for you which I just got and am so excited to try, so look forward to that!

Happy weekend!

Milani Liquid Metal Collection

Have patience with me, everyone… these are my first swatches. Apologies since they aren’t all that great, but I had to start somewhere! These are the Milanis that I got from CVS the other day!

Molten Rock

Melt Down

Melt With U

The formula on these was awesome and they are VERY sparkly. I used 2 coats for all of them, but I think 3 would look really nice and give a lot of depth. I’m wearing Melt With U currently and am really enjoying it. The 2 reds are a lot alike, the first one, Melt Down, has a lot more purple in it, and Melt With U I expected to be a lot more orange, but it’s definitely still red. On the whole, I like Milani’s polishes and I like this collection. I wish it would’ve been easier to find so I could’ve gotten the other colors, especially Hot Metal!

CVS Haul

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a good holiday weekend. Mine wasn’t much, I’m in the process of moving and don’t have electricity or internet right now. So this morning when I needed to get out of my place I wandered over to CVS and found two spectacular sights: two random buckets filled with OPI polishes and (finally) a display for the Milani Liquid Metal collection that I had been coveting.

Now, someone had maliciously tried to hide the Milanis from me, they were practically all gone, I’m assuming because they were going for 50% off. I did manage to discover 3 remaining bottles, but unfortunately since I can’t update from home I don’t remember exactly what colors I bought. I know I have Melt With U (I think the darker red?) and Molten Rock (teal-blue), but I can’t remember the name of the other one. I’m still searching for Hot Metal, which is the purple one.

Milani Liquid Metals

The buckets of OPI were mostly filled with the Hong Kong Collection, but I did find a few other things in there. I got Friar Friar Pants On Fire, which is supposedly part of OPI Classics, but I’ve never seen it before and the color struck me as something I would really like. Probably the biggest prize of all is OPI DS Fantasy, which I got for $8.50 because CVS doesn’t know any better.

Friar Friar Pants On Fire and DS Fantasy

Very excited to try all of these! I have so many polishes to use. I swatched them pretty quickly on my nails in the store to see what I was getting, they all looked really nice and went on well. Milani Molten Rock looks like a less green version of Zoya Charla, similar, but not an exact dupe. Unfortunately my nails need a little TLC right now due to some peeling I discovered so I’m going to have to treat them and go naked for a couple days. Let’s hope I get internet soon!
